In front of the Kunsthalle Bratislava, in the area of Treskoňová Street, Matej Gavula installed the Promenade, a temporary layout of the stone fragments removed from the Danube embankment in Bratislava. They come from the so-called Matušík's wall, which is inscribed in the collective memory of the people of Bratislava as an iconic element of the promenade by the Danube.

The exhibition Potential Agrarianisms, subtitled Will There Still Be Sugar After the Rebellion? is the climax of the major European project EASTERN SUGAR, which is implemented by the Slovak National Gallery in cooperation with its international partners and Kunsthalle Bratislava, supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

Czech, internationally renowned artist, Eva Koťátková’s first solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Bratislava – stepping into the complex web of ongoing relations in the square – is presented on the ground level of the institution at Kunsthalle LAB, in direct contact with the surrounding environment through the large storefront windows.

The solo exhibition project for Kunsthalle Bratislava reflects Igor Eškinja’s interest in changing the narratives of the gallery premises and taking the specifics of the exhibition space as a main premise in the project.

The plan of exhibition activities for 2021 was created before the new director Jen Kratochvil, appointed on February 1, 2021, took up his position. Despite the time deficit, some desired changes have been introduced initially in the main exhibition spaces, reflecting the new vision and the current situation. Projects in the Kunsthalle LAB and EXT spaces have remained in their original form.

As from February 1, 2021, Kunsthalle Bratislava officially has a new director. In a transparent selection process, the successful candidate was the well-known curator and critic Jen Kratochvil, active in Prague and Vienna. He has already begun giving practical effect to his vision, having travelled to Slovakia in February. Our visual art scene is not unknown to him; quite the contrary.

This solo project, specially created for the Kunsthalle LAB space, represents the work of the Košice artist Radovan Čerevka in its latest development. His current cycle creates a complex environment, thematically focused on the cult of the body. One may also interpret it as a dystopian posthuman vision, brought to realisation in an expansive installation with an inner coherence.

Kunsthalle Bratislava presents an international exhibition project Na hrane / At the Limit / Am Limit that explores borders and experiences associated with borderline situations through the background of works by sixteen authors from six countries.

In light of the recently eased coronavirus measures, the exhibition space in Kunsthalle Bratislava has been reopened to the public since May 11, 2020.

Kunsthalle Bratislava will present a solo exhibition by the internationally respected Lithuanian artist Žilvinas Landzbergas at the beginning of July. His exhibition project is produced specially for the Kunsthalle LAB space. Art lovers have already been able to see Landzbergas’s work at the prestigious Venice Biennale in 2017, where he presented his installation R in the Lithuanian national pavilion.

Kunsthalle Bratislava presents a wide-ranging exhibition entitled Inverse Romanticism, comprising works by five leading Czech and Slovak artists of the contemporary scene (Josef Bolf, Martin Gerboc, Jiří Petrbok, Ivan Pinkava, Richard Štipl). Using the media of photography, painting, drawing and sculpture, the artists elaborate the theme of “inversion”, which is present in a fundamental sense in their works and fulfils a critical role in relation to the present time.

This year, Kunsthalle Bratislava (KHB) will offer an extensive and dynamic program featuring attractive domestic and international exhibitions, as well as other contemporary visual art projects. A total of 8 large and also small exhibitions at Kunsthalle LAB, accompanied by numerous educational and editorial outputs, the public online database of contemporary art will grow, and a number of external cooperations is planned.

Kunsthalle Bratislava brings the year 2018 to a climax with an extensive exhibition, mapping the current state of 3D thinking on the Czech and Slovak visual art scenes. Vladimír Beskid’s curatorial project is presented on the centenary of the foundation of the 1st Czechoslovak Republic, and thus it celebrates a tradition, over one hundred years old, of objective art as a new medium. The opening will be held on Thursday, November 29, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.   

Kunsthalle LAB, in cooperation with White Night, the international festival of contemporary art, presents an interactive exhibition by the Polish-German artist Karina Smigla-Bobinski, ADA, which has previously been shown to viewers in Brazil, USA, Great Britain, South Korea and Russia. The opening of the exhibition, curated by the director of the White Night festival, Zuzana Pacáková, will be held on Thursday, September 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
