MICHEL HOUELLEBECQ
Kunsthalle LAB presents a surprising exhibition by the French writer, and also photographer, Michel Houellebecq. Viewers have been able to see his visual work e.g. in the Rester Vivant exhibition at the prestigious Palais de Tokyo in 2016. The launch of the Kunsthalle LAB exhibition, whose curator is Florence Bonnefous, will be held on Thursday, May 17, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibition will last until June 24, 2018.
Ilona Németh: EASTERN SUGAR
Kunsthalle Bratislava is opening a large-scale exhibition by the prominent Slovak artist Ilona Németh. Entitled Eastern Sugar, this is an exceptionally ambitious undertaking by local standards. The project developed as a collaborative effort involving a wider collective of artists and architects, with the curators, KHB director Nina Vrbanová and Leipzig-based curator Krisztina Hunya, taking overall responsibility.
Black and White Geometric Landscape by Esther Stocker
Kunsthalle LAB opens its autumn season, in collaboration with the White Night Festival, in an international spirit: with a solo exhibition by Esther Stocker, an Italian-born artist working in Austria. The launch of the exhibition, attended by its curator Zuzana Pacáková (who is also director of the festival, of which the installation forms part), will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m on Thursday October 6, 2016, shortly before White Night.
TOMÁŠ RAFA: Paradox of Tolerance
Kunsthalle Bratislava is opening a new solo exhibition in its “window gallery” Kunsthalle LAB. The exhibition is by Tomáš Rafa, whose works may already be seen by art-lovers in the prestigious Museum of Modern Art (MoMA PS1) in New York.
The launch of The Paradox of Tolerance, curated by Lenka Kukurová, will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibition will run until April 15, 2018.
Kunsthalle Bratislava Programme for 2018
Kunsthalle Bratislava has devised an exhibition plan for 2018, aiming primarily at international exchange and presentation of contemporary Slovak visual art, while giving it increased visibility abroad.
ŠTEFAN PAPČO: Psycho-vertical & SZILÁRD CSEKE: Fall by the Roadside
The year 2017 will be crowned in Kunsthalle Bratislava by two new exhibitions solemnly opened in one day. The first floor will be dedicated to an extensive project by Štefan Papčo, distinctive representative of modern sculpture in Slovakia. For the space Kunsthalle LAB, an interactive installation made-to-measure by Hungarian artist Szilárd Cseke is prepared. To his sympathisers, Cseke´s art is well known from the Venice Biennale (La Biennale di Venezia).
CARMELA GROSS: The Photographer
Kunsthalle LAB starts the autumn season with a solo exhibition of Carmella Gross, an internationally acclaimed artist from Brazil. Among other institutions, her works are also included in the collection of the prestigious Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The opening of the exhibition curated by Jacopo Crivelli Visconti will take place on Wednesday, September 13, at 6 p.m. The exhibition will last until November 26, 2017.
ERIK ŠILLE: error
Kunsthalle Bratislava presents a solo exhibition of Erik Šille – one of the leading representatives of the boom of Slovak painting after 2000. The opening of the exhibition, which will take place on Thursday 13 July from 18:00 to 20:00 on the first floor of the building, will also include an introduction of the new monographic catalogue of the author. The exhibition entitled error curated by Laco Teren will last until October 29, 2017.
STANO FILKO: 2037
Kunsthalle Bratislava presents a solo exhibition of the famous Slovak avant-gardist Stano Filko. The exhibition with the conceptual title 2037 held in Kunsthalle LAB will honor the author in the symbolic event of his 80th birthday. The opening of the exhibition prepared by Nina Vrbanová (Chief Curator of KHB) will take place on Thursday, June 22, at 6 pm. The exhibition will be accessible to the visitors and passersby until August 27, 2017.
Like at Home, Possibility of Preserving
On 30 March 2017, Kunsthalle Bratislava will introduced two new exhibitions. In the central area it will be exposition entitled Like at Home, which presents the evolutionary transformations of the domestic sculpture of the 20th and 21st century through selected artworks by 12 Slovak artists. The Possibilities of Preserving is the title of the exhibition project by the art group APART collective.
OTO HUDEC: Archipelago
This year’s second exhibition in Kunsthalle LAB will present the project Archipelago by the Slovak multimedia artist Oto Hudec, whose artwork has been also cherished by the prestigious museum Centre Georges Pompidou as a part of their collections. The opening of the exhibition curated by Daniel Grúň will be held on Thursday, the 20th April, from 6.00 – 8.00 p.m. The exhibition will run until June 11, 2017.
Absence versus Presence in the Space of Art
Kunsthalle Bratislava begins its 2017 exhibition year with an experimental international project titled INTO THE MU. To attend the exhibition space of Kunsthalle LAB, the curator of the project Elisa Rusca invited four artists active abroad.
LOOK WHAT IS BACK / The Slovak State in Contemporary Art
Kunsthalle Bratislava (KHB) opens an exhibition on the reflection of the topic of the Slovak State in contemporary Slovak visual arts. The first floor of KHB will offer the visitors the works of more than twenty male and female artists, some of whom focus on the topic consistently.
Women's Art History according to Agnès Thurnauer in Kunsthalle LAB
Kunsthalle LAB completes this season’s gamut of international exhibitions with the presentation of Agnès Thurnauer, a French-Swiss female artist. An exhibition project titled Land and Language curated by Mira Sikorová-Putišová is the very first probe into the work of the artist in Slovakia. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Wednesday, the 7th December 2016, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Fear of the Unknown
The European refugee crisis we are facing at the moment is the most serious one since World War II. Dom umenia/Kunsthalle Bratislava is the first state cultural institution in Eastern Europe to prepare an exhibition on this topical theme. This international project, curated by Lenka Kukurová, presents established artists from abroad alongside prominent representatives of the Slovak scene.
Known in the whole world and almost unknown at home
Centre Pompidou in Paris and MoMa in New York have him in their collections. He was a Czechoslovak artist who achieved outstanding international success in his short life. Dom umenia/Kunsthalle Bratislava presents the First Retrospective of the conceptual artist Ján Mančuška, which is his first big exhibition in Slovakia. The exhibition opening will take place on November 12, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
What happens when two galaxies collide without any encounter?
The exhibition season of Kunsthalle LAB in Bratislava will be concluded with a solo show of Pavla Sceranková (*1980), a Slovak sculptor and current finalists of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award. The opening of the exhibition entitled Collision of Galaxies is to be held on Thursday, 17 December 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibition lasts until 14 February 2015.
When the initial laughter stops, reality steps in
“Contemporary art is nothing but a business, but we take it as a joke.” These are the words of Nika Oblak & Primož Novak, an artist duo exhibiting in Slovakia for the very first time. Kunsthalle LAB will host the opening of their show And Now For Something Completely Different 5 curated by Petja Grafenauer on Thursday, 5 November 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibition will last until 6 December 2015.
Fresh, unexpected and poetic ways of reading Bratislava
Kunsthalle LAB launches the busy upcoming autumn season with an international project of curator Belinda Grace Gardner entitled Psychogeographic Junction. The exhibition presents four contemporary German artists who interact in a dialogue with Bratislava and its citizens. The opening of the exhibition will be held on Thursday, 17 September 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The exhibition will run until 25 October 2015.
Openly on feminism!
The “window gallery” Kunsthalle LAB of the Dom umenia/Kunsthalle Bratislava is to host a new exhibition on feminism – an issue that still remains current and rather sensitive within contemporary art. The opening of the exhibition organized as part of the zero year of the festival FestFem will be held on Thursday, July 16th 2015, from 6 to 8pm. The exhibition will run until September 6th 2015.
Kunsthalle LAB Keeps Visitors and Passers-By under Surveillance
On 6th November, Kunsthalle LAB will host an exhibition of a Polish-Hungarian visual artist duo known as Elektro Moon Vision. The interactive multimedia projects of Elwira Wojtunik and Popesz Csaba Láng represent the more progressive part of contemporary Central European visual art. The exhibition project entitled Random Eye Check (REC) was selected based on an international open call. The selected installation virtually draws visitors and passers-by into a sphere of constant surveillance. For the purpose of the exhibition, the Bratislava Kunsthalle adjusted the LAB’s opening hours. The gallery will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and until 9 p.m. on Fridays, but the installation can also be viewed outside the opening hours until midnight. It is hoped the evening setting will deepen the experience of this remarkable exhibition.

Úvodná výstava v novovzniknutej galérii potrvá do 22. októbra 2014 a ďalej bude pokračovať od 11. decembra 2014 do 1. februára 2015. Dôvodom je výstavný plán medzinárodného festivalu Mesiac fotografie (MF).
