Tomasz Wendland – Hotel de Inmigrantes

Hotel de Inmigrantes is a cyclical project begun in 2012 on the Art Scope Show in New York. I was inspired by the originnal building of quarantaine biult in the habour of Buenos Aires in the 18th Century for the milions of emigrants coming to South America with a hope to begin a new, better life.

I found every where people whose ancestors come from Central and Polish. I feld like in a book of diary of my own past, which becomes first accesible when I came to South America. Migration of volks is an nothing new, but today it has another form. We can travel all around the world as a turists, without a commitement to stay somewhere for ever. We can travel as well virtually on the internet, be present there via skype and in a real time. I begun the on going project before the war in Ukraine and Syria, revilution in the north Africa, which results with a big waves of refugis and imigrants in Europe.

My wish is to initiate in different places all over the world free international artists and students meetings, which are not only oriented towards exhibitions, but first of all to be kind of internal meetings between artists and local people in order to reflect on our own identity and tolerance for different attitudes, which creates a reachness of civilisations and individual human beings, apart of any divisions. This project is as well a movement againnst manipulations which obuse people against each other, building kliches and fear of the unknown, present the others as a dangerous or less civilised humans.

Each project has a special subtitle which referes to the local situation in Belgium, Hannover, Urugway, Japan or Indonesia. for example our 7th project in Israel will be initiated in the city Arad on the desert and partly in Jerusalem and wil be entitled 'Life is a Game" - life in extreme surcomstances like desert, in a country which exists in e permanent conflict with the neigbours.
The 8th project is planed in Dresden in a collaboration with the imigrans from Syria in the refuges camp as a part of a big event OSTRALE.
We hope to bring one dayall the participant to the original builiding of HDI in Buenos Aires.
